Today is December 8. Below are some of the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room.
1.’Stay tuned’: House GOP hints at potential legal action against ex-Twitter lawyer who suppressed Hunter story
The Republican leaders, who are slated to assume leadership roles when the GOP take majority control of the House early next year, suggested that all options are on the table when asked by Fox News Digital whether they would pursue legal action or issue any subpoenas related to recent reports about Baker. Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced Tuesday that Baker had been “exited” from the company for suppressing information.
“Stay tuned,” a House Judiciary Committee GOP spokesperson told Fox News Digital in an email when asked about potential legal actions the committee could take.
Ryan Lynch: Good, I hope the GOP will open an investigation into the Twitter files and hold the people accountable for suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story and meddling in the 2020 Election.
2.Used vehicle demand and prices continue to decline from record highs
Cox Automotive said Wednesday that its Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index, which tracks prices of used vehicles sold at its U.S. wholesale auctions, has declined 15.6% from record levels in January through November. The index dropped to 199.4 last month, below 200 for the first time since August 2021, and is down 14.2% from the same month a year ago. It marks the sixth-consecutive month of declines.
The falling prices come as the availability of new vehicles steadily rises from historic lows, providing additional options for consumers and potentially better loan options from automaker’s financing arms.
Ryan Lynch: With automakers slowly resupplying the auto market with new vehicles, the demand for used cars is declining. It will eventually hit back to pre-pandemic levels. If you’ve been considering selling your automobile, the opportunity for a high price is narrowing.
3.Russia attacks in east Ukraine as Putin celebrates land grab
Near the city of Lysychansk, Russia deployed more troops to try to capture the village of Bilohorivka, Ukraine’s governor of the region said, while a commander in another heavily fought-over settlement described an intensifying Russian air offensive.
“They are bringing in more and more reserves,” around Bilohorivka to try to capture the village, Luhansk governor Serhiy Haiday told Ukrainian television. “There are constant attacks.”
Ryan Lynch: Putin will weaken Russia politically, militarily, and financially for years.
4.AI bot that can do schoolwork could ‘blow up’ US education system, with youngest at most risk: former teacher
“The introduction of new artificial intelligence technologies into schools that enables students to auto-generate essays has the capacity to blow up our entire writing education curriculum,” Peter Laffin, founder of Crush the College Essay and writing coach, told Fox News. “It may make us have to rethink it from the ground up, and that might ultimately be a good thing.”
Last week, tech company OpenAI unveiled an AI chatbot, ChatGPT, which has stunned users with its advanced functions. The language model can automatically generate school essays for any grade level, answer open-ended analytical questions, draft marketing pitches, write jokes, poems and even computer code.
Ryan Lynch: Technology like this is hazardous. Students could use these applications to do their schoolwork for them. Teachers must evolve to keep students honest in their work and to keep effective teaching prevalent in the classroom. The more significant concern is that the technology will only improve, so how do we stop it from being used by students?
5.Celine Dion reveals incurable neurological disorder diagnosis in emotional video
Speaking out on Instagram, the 54-year-old Canadian native said, “As you know, I’ve always been an open book. And I wasn’t ready to say anything before – but I’m ready now. I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time. And it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and talk about everything that I’ve been going through.”
Dion then revealed she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), which she explained “affects something like one in a million people.”
Ryan Lynch: Celine Dion emphasized that we need to take care of our health. Take care of your health and take advantage of our DML CBD Bogo deal at dmlcbd.com/bogo before it ends this week.
