Rationing, lockdowns, teachers busted for sex crimes, and more…
By Anneta Griffee
Today is May 19. Below are some of the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room.
1 – Biden’s road to record-high gas prices may soon lead to rationing
The New York Post reports: Gasoline prices at the pump have always fluctuated within a regular epicycle of global oil prices, but the Biden administration’s every policy choice from its first day in office has contributed significantly to this week’s news that gas prices exceed $4 a gallon in all 50 states. President Joe Biden and the Democrats seem determined to repeat every policy mistake of the 1970s, and it might not end until Biden attempts to impose price controls and rationing.
Start with Biden’s cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline on Inauguration Day. This act was more shocking than merely the loss of unionized jobs and an insult to our largest trading partner; it is the first time to my knowledge that any president has canceled a private-sector project that was already under construction.
It is one thing to block a permit; the government does that all the time. It is another thing to revoke a permit already granted absent some malfeasance, and there was none by Keystone alleged.
The Obama State Department concluded years ago that the pipeline would have no impact on climate change, but such is Biden’s slavishness to environmental fundamentalism that he felt compelled to cancel Keystone, which would have transported nearly 1 million barrels of Canadian oil a day and expanded the capacity and resiliency of our petroleum-refining sector. The heavy pressure on America’s oil refineries right now because of market distortions is one of the chief causes of high pump prices.
MY TAKE: 80 million people really voted for this?
2 – Great Reset Watch: E.U. ‘Needs’ Lockdown-like Restrictions to Curb Russian Oil Use, Work-from-Home Mandates, No Cars on Weekends, More…
Breitbart reports: Measures akin to a COVID lockdown are needed in order to curb the EU’s reliance on Russian oil, one member state has said.
Lockdown-like measures should be implemented across the European Union to curb the bloc’s reliance on Russian oil, Luxembourg’s energy minister has said.
The demand comes as the transnational bloc prepares to publish a plan aimed at weaning the EU off of fossil fuels supplied from Russia, with some nation-states such as Germany being badly addicted to the likes of natural gas provided by the state.
According to a report by Der Spiegel, Luxembourg believes that such a plan should include the introduction of an EU-wide mandatory speed limit, a bloc-wide work-from-home mandate for at least two days of the week, and for every major EU city to ban the use of cars on the weekends.
This, the minister argues, would curb the use of oil in Europe and, in turn, lower reliance on Russian fuel imports.
“What we need at EU level is an EU-wide coordinated speed limit and two days of home office per week,” said the Luxembourgish Energy Minister Claude Turmes.
MY TAKE: These globalists apparently want world-wide communism.
3 – Alarming number of teachers busted for child sex crimes in 2022
Fox News reports: At least 135 teachers and teachers’ aides have been arrested so far this year on child sex-related crimes in the U.S., ranging from child pornography to raping students.
An analysis conducted by Fox News Digital looked at local news stories week by week featuring arrests of teachers and teachers’ aides on child sex-related crimes in school districts across the country. Arrests that weren’t publicized were not counted in the analysis, meaning the true number may well be higher.
The analysis found that at least 135 teachers and teachers’ aides have been arrested in 41 states between January 1 and May 13, which works out to about an arrest a day on average.
The vast majority of the arrested educators were men. Of the 135 arrests, at least 102, or 76%, involved alleged crimes against students.
Meanwhile, this happened:
MY TAKE: Number of teachers busted for sex crimes against students is skyrocketing. And number of teachers obsessed with sex and gender is skyrocketing. Any connection here? The public school system is totally lost.
4 – OP-ED: UPenn female swimmers are finally free to compete with women only
The Washington Examiner reports: Free at last! Free at last! Thank God for graduation — UPenn’s female swimmers are free at last to compete with solely female members.
Lia Thomas officially graduated from the Ivy League school on Sunday. The University of Pennsylvania’s female swim team has officially rid itself of the controversies surrounding the transgender swimmer, in what could only be described as the oddest collegiate swimming season in history.
Next year, when the female swim season begins, the roster will consist entirely of real women.
This means that fair competition has returned to the team’s females — real, actual females. This means there will be no more unfair biological advantage by a man over the women he yearns to defeat. Women will no longer be forced to look at the genitalia of a 22-year-old man in locker rooms after swimming practice. The UPenn female swimmers will be free and no longer treated like “third-class citizens.”
However, just because they are free doesn’t mean they should forget what happened to them. No woman should. And truthfully, no man should either.
Sadly, the UPenn female swim team — and all female athletes — are only free until the next Lia Thomas emerges. They are at the mercy of woke, radical, leftist school administrators and the ideologues and cowards at the NCAA who champion the causes of the woke mob over the rights of college women. Lia’s graduation is just a metaphorical band-aid for female athletics. Unfortunately, it’s just a matter of time until the next man who suffers from gender dysphoria wants to swim or compete in any other sport against women, and the people in charge do nothing to stop it.
MY TAKE: How about let’s just bring back old fashioned common sense and decency?
5 – Pro-Maskers May Be Laying The Groundwork To Bring Back COVID Restrictions
The Daily Caller reports: Supporters of mask mandates may have a new opportunity to once again try bringing back COVID-19 restrictions in the coming weeks.
COVID-19 cases are once again on the rise in the United States, prompting some government officials to begin sounding the alarm that masks may need to make a comeback. The White House held its first COVID-19 response briefing in nearly two months Wednesday, the first for new response coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha, a longtime proponent of restrictions.
Jha, along with other top public health officials, noted that one-third of Americans now live in areas deemed “high-risk,” meaning they should now wear masks in indoor settings, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That’s a substantial increase from when the CDC initially revised its risk assessment system, when just five percent of Americans lived in so-called high-risk areas.
CDC director Rochelle Walensky said at the briefing that the agency encouraged local leaders in high-risk areas, largely concentrated in the northeast, to “encourage the use of prevention strategies like masking in public indoor settings.”
MY TAKE: Hmm… does this have anything to do with an election coming up in November?
