Today is May 23. Below are some of the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room.

  1. Tim Scott fires back at ‘The View’s racially charged attacks:

Fox News – South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, who officially launched his Republican presidential primary bid Monday, responded to racially charged attacks by panelists on ABC’s “The View,” saying the best way to disprove their lies is through action.

Scott is the first Black senator elected in the South since Reconstruction – and the third overall. Shortly after the Civil War, Mississippi elected two Black Republicans – Blanche Bruce and Hiram Revels – to the U.S. Senate. In 2020, Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., became the first Black Democratic senator elected in the South in that timespan.

On the left-leaning talk show, “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg suggested Scott has “Clarence Thomas syndrome.” Thomas, a conservative U.S. Supreme Court justice from neighboring Georgia, has long been attacked by the left for not toeing what they believe is the proper jurisprudential line based on his skin color.

Goldberg’s co-host Sunny Hostin further claimed one of Scott’s “issues” is that he believes because he “made it” coming from an impoverished Black family in the South, “everyone can make it.”

Scott told Fox News that Hostin had it backward when she claimed his story is “the exception, not the rule.”

“Meekness is not weakness. I believe in the Gospel. I believe Matthew 5:44 says ‘Love your enemies’ — [but] if you break in my house, I also believe in the Second Amendment’,” Scott told host Trey Gowdy, a fellow South Carolinian.

“We have to ignore the far left by disproving their lies by our actions. Here’s the funny thing: The host, Sunny, she wants to be judged by the content of her character, not the color of her skin. The fact of the matter is America is a story of evolution – a never told story of evolution in too many of our schools that are indoctrinating our kids instead of educating our kids.”

Denny’s Insight: Goldberg is a race-baiting liberal, and she should be ashamed for attacking Scott because he doesn’t follow her perceived concept of how black Americans should vote.

2. Tulsi Gabbard shreds Kamala Harris as ‘completely unqualified’ to be commander in chief:

Washington Examiner – Former 2020 presidential candidate and Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard blasted Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday as “completely unqualified” to serve as the nation’s commander in chief.

Gabbard made the comment while addressing potential candidates for the 2024 presidential election on Patrick Bet-David’s PBD Podcast.

When the notion that there might one day be a President Harris, Gabbard was quick to point out why Harris would be a “dangerous” choice.

Serving as the commander in chief is the “most important responsibility” of the president, and Harris is “completely unqualified” for that role, according to Gabbard.

Denny’s Insight: I’ve come to like Gabbard over the years.  Regardless how you feel about her politics, I sometimes feel she gives very useful insight. And it’s not hard to agree with her about Kamala being completely unqualified for the role of president (or any government role for that matter).

3. Senate Democrats Propose More Funding and Work Permits for Illegal Aliens:

FAIR – Last week, Senate Democrats introduced an emergency supplemental funding bill in an effort to demonstrate they are addressing the crisis at the southern border. The bill, entitled the Border Management, Security, and Assistance Act of 2023 (S.1600), is sponsored by two key members of the Senate, Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Senator Gary Peters (D-Mich.).  Senator Durbin serves both as Majority Whip and Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.  Senator Peters is Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.  Twelve other members of the Senate Democratic Caucus have joined these two Senators in co-sponsoring the bill.

Unfortunately, instead of offering any meaningful solutions to the border crisis, S.1600 further encourages and funds the rapid processing and release of illegal aliens into the United States.  In fact, the bill actually rewards illegal aliens with taxpayer dollars and creates even more incentives for illegal immigration.  To illustrate, S.1600 proposes the following spending:

  • $14.5 million to the Department of Justice’s Civil Division to fight lawsuits brought against the government related to the southwest border.
  • $47 million to the Department of Justice to fund United States Attorneys (federal prosecutors) “for increased law enforcement activities related to Southwest border enforcement.”  However, none of this money may be used to prosecute aliens for illegal entry if the alien has a pending asylum claim or other “protection” claim.
  • $13 million in state and local law enforcement assistance, but not to help enforce our immigration laws.  Instead, $3 million must be awarded as grants for the Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains Act of 2019, and the remaining $10 million is set aside for a “rural violent crime initiative” to investigate and prosecute violent crime in jurisdictions within 100 miles of the southern border.
  • $2.88 billion to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for operations and support, of which:
    • $1.95 billion must be transferred to FEMA for its Shelter and Services Program.  This program gives food, shelter and other assistance to illegal aliens who have crossed the southern border.
    • $603.5 million must be used for establishing and operating “temporary processing facilities” to increase capacity at ports of entry at the southern border while supporting trade and travel.
    • $67.65 million for CBP overtime, temporary duty pay, and a “volunteer force.”
    • $57 million for transportation.
    • $56 million for mission support data and analysis.
    • $51 million for Office of Field Operations Officers at ports of entry (not Border Patrol agents).
    • $28.6 million for “caregivers and medical care” for illegal aliens.
    • $11 million for employee wellness.
  • $1.13 billion to CBP for procurement (i.e. large-scale purchases), construction and improvements, none of which will be used for the border wall.  Instead $700 million must be for vehicle screening equipment (helpful for commercial traffic, but not particularly relevant for stopping illegal aliens) and $430 million is allocated for the purchase and deployment of “innovative border security technology,” including surveillance equipment.
  • $960 million to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “to respond to the rise in noncitizen arrivals at the southwest border.” Notably, the bill does not direct the agency to detain illegal aliens, but rather, directs the agency to release them. Of this amount,
    • $553 million is for transportation of illegal aliens.
    • $127 million is for alternatives to detention.
    • $36 million for “transportation processing coordinator” positions.
    • $52 million for ICE overtime and temporary duty pay.
    • $117 million to reimburse the medical bills of illegal aliens treated by third parties within seven days of release from custody—including state, local, and emergency and first responders.
    • $61 million for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) trafficking investigations.
  • $409 million to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), an agency that has traditionally been funded by application fees, not through taxpayer dollars.  However, the agency is in such dire straits due to President Biden’s immigration policies, that the Senate proposes providing the agency this direct appropriation.  Of this amount:
    • $210 million is allocated for “efficient processing of asylum claims.”
    • $100 million is for backlogs in the asylum system.
    • $99 million is allocated for issuing work permits.
  • $1 billion to Health and Human Services to:
    • Carry out its responsibilities with regard to Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs);
    • Taking custody of, caring for and placing UACs with sponsors;
    • Improving case management and case coordination services for UACs;
    • Increasing Legal services, child advocate services and post-release services for UACs.

Denny’s Insight: The countless amount of dollars we spend helping noncitizens when Americans are hurting is criminal. The Democrat solution to fixing a problem is to inflate and enhance the problem.

4. Hillary Clinton Admits Joe Biden’s Age An ‘Issue’ For 2024 Campaign:

Daily Caller – President Joe Biden being 80 years old may present an “issue” in his reelection campaign, 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Sunday.

“His age is an issue and people have every right to consider it,” Clinton told Financial Times in response to a question about Biden repeatedly falling down stairs. The British business publication interviewed Clinton Sunday about Russia, China and the state of American democracy.

“But he has this great saying and I think he’s right. Don’t judge him by running against the Almighty, but against the alternative. And I am of the camp that I think he’s determined to run. He has a good record that three years ago people would not have predicted would have gotten done,” the 75-year-old former secretary of state added.

Denny’s Insight: If this is her way of saying to be open minded to a potential Hillary presidency, we don’t want it. We didn’t want it in 2016, and we don’t want it now. We don’t want it ever.

5. ‘Woke’ Fox News Imposes Transgenderism on Workforce:

Fox News quietly enforces woke pro-transgender workplace policies on its employees, even while it poses as a critical source of news about transgenderism, says a report at the Daily Signal.

The May 22 report cites the company’s handbook for employees, saying that “transgender” rights require that all other employees accept sex-switching claims without any “transphobic” disagreement, complaints, or appeals to science:

Under the category “Gender Transition,” Fox’s employee handbook promises that the company is dedicated to “expanding and strengthening” efforts to “sustain a more inclusive work environment.” The Fox employee handbook is posted on Workday, where employees can see company guidelines or policies, a former employee told The Daily Signal.

“Employees who are transitioning their gender have the right to be open about their transition if they so choose, and to work in an environment free of harassment, discrimination, or retaliation, and without fear of consequences or transphobia for living openly,” the policy says.

The company’s HR department oversees large workforces in far-left jurisdictions in New York and Los Angeles and enforces the reality-twisting language and anti-majority social norms demanded by transgender groups. The report says:

For the past several years, Fox received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, “the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.” A former Fox News employee told The Daily Signal that the company frequently mentions this perfect score in employee training materials.

Denny’s Insight: Are we surprised? I want to ask you guys if any of you still watch Fox News since Tucker Carlson’s departure? Let me know in the comments below!
