Election news, Biden rages in Buffalo, weak Mayorkas, Dems cancel hearing, and more….

Today is May 18. Below are some of the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room.
1 – Pennsylvania GOP Senate primary between McCormick and Oz too close to call
The Washington Examiner reports: Pennsylvania’s GOP primary for Senate is too close to call, as television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz and former hedge fund manager David McCormick are within a few percentage points of each other for their party’s nomination in a race Republicans likely need to win to maintain control of the chamber in the midterm elections.
For much of the campaign, the Pennsylvania GOP primary was centered on Oz, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, and businessman Dave McCormick, with conservative commentator Kathy Barnette surging in polls in the final days of the race before likely falling out of contention on election night.
Just after midnight on Wednesday, McCormick had 31.2% of the primary vote (380,095 total) to 31.1% for Oz (378,610). Pennsylvania has an automatic recount law in statewide races when the margin between the top two candidates is within 0.5%, so a Republican Senate primary winner may not be known for days or even weeks.
Current results as of right now:
MY TAKE: Who ever wins this primary, Republicans need to unite behind them all the way to the general election in November, because GOP NEEDS THIS SEAT!
2 – Biden rages in speech to Buffalo victims: White supremacy a ‘poison’ in America
The Hill reports: President Biden on Tuesday called white supremacy a “poison” in the U.S. and called on Americans to reject the racist white “replacement theory” believed to have inspired the gunman behind the tragic Buffalo, N.Y., mass shooting.
“I call on all Americans to reject the lie,” Biden said in emotional remarks from Buffalo on Tuesday afternoon. ”I condemn those who spread the lie for power, for political gain and for profit.”
“We need to say as clearly and forcefully as we can that the ideology of white supremacy has no place in America,” Biden said. “None.”
Biden delivered the remarks after he and first lady Jill Biden met with families of the victims of Saturday’s mass shooting, which police are investigating as a racially motivated hate crime.
“What happened here is simple and straightforward: Terrorism. Terrorism. Domestic terrorism,” Biden said. “Violence inflicted in the service of hate and the vicious thirst for power that defines one group of people being inherently inferior to any other group.”
MY TAKE: Despicable! Biden is only spreading more division and hate, instead of focusing on the sick, evil criminal and asking WHY was he allowed to slip through the cracks!
3 – Biden’s DHS Chief Attempts To Dissuade Migrants As The Border Gets Overwhelmed
The Daily Caller reports: Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas pleaded with migrants Tuesday to not trust smugglers who offer to bring them into the country, even as they cross illegally in droves.
“Do not place your lives in the hands of individuals who only seek to exploit your lives for the sake of profit. We are building safe, orderly and humane pathways to access the benefits that the law provides and that Congress has passed,” Mayorkas said during a border trip to McAllen, Texas. “But, traveling from one country to another in the hands of smugglers only to be met by the enforcement authorities of the United States government is not the way to achieve relief. The laws of the border will be enforced.”
Southern border authorities encountered 234,088 migrants in April, 117,989 of which were released into the country. DHS is preparing for an influx of migrants in the coming months with the anticipation of Title 42’s expected end, expanding the capacity of its facilities to be able to hold 18,000 migrants at a time.
“If one does not qualify for relief, one will be removed. The smugglers peddle misinformation. We see the misinformation that they peddle. That Title 42, for example, does not apply to certain populations. That information is false,” Mayorkas said. “You place your life savings in the hands of exploitative individuals, you put your lives at risk based on the misinformation that they peddle to you, only for you to be expelled, only for you to be removed under the laws. If you have a claim for relief, of course the laws provide that that relief will prevail, but so many do not qualify and so many are harmed en route.”
MY TAKE: Well, it looks like all those illegal aliens are really shaking in their boots and high-tailing it back home…. NOPE! Mayorkas and Joe Biden have laid out the welcome mat… they WANT them here, and they’re doing NOTHING to stop it.
4 – Senate Dems Nix ‘Disinformation’ Hearing After Embarrassing Jankowicz Videos Surface
The Free Beacon reports: Senate Democrats abruptly canceled a hearing at which President Joe Biden’s new disinformation czar Nina Jankowicz was expected to testify, a decision made after embarrassing videos posted by the self-proclaimed “Mary Poppins of disinformation” sparked a political firestorm.
Senate Democrats planned to hold a May 10 hearing on “disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation,” just a couple of weeks after Biden tapped Jankowicz to head his administration’s newly created Disinformation Governance Board. Democratic leaders were reluctant to have Jankowicz face Republican questioning, however, prompting them to nix the hearing, three Senate offices told the Washington Free Beacon.
“They yanked it when the entire ‘disinformation board’ blew up,” one senior aide told the Free Beacon. “They realized there’s no way they could reschedule without Nina Jankowicz being called to testify.”
The Senate’s Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee had the hearing scheduled since April, but the optics of the hearing in light of Jankowicz’s negative press led to its abrupt cancellation. Such hearings are normally sleepy events on Capitol Hill, but the controversy surrounding Jankowicz would have made the hearing a spectacle. The hearing would have been an opportunity for Republicans to question not only Jankowicz but also the creation of the board in the first place. The administration has refused to answer questions about its decision to give the disinformation post to Jankowicz, who has drawn criticism for falsely labeling Hunter Biden’s laptop a “Russian influence op” and for her flamboyant TikTok videos.
Canceling Senate hearings on such short notice is out of the ordinary and typically does not happen unless a witness or expert falls ill or has a last-minute scheduling conflict. The disinformation hearing, according to multiple Senate offices, had been scheduled since early April and was planned for May 10.
MY TAKE: Democrats need to cancel the ‘disinformation governance board’ and Jankowicz’s appointment as well. This whole thing is a freaking JOKE.
5 – Mom Reads Aloud Purported Assignment Given To Daughter. School Board Cuts Her Mic Because It’s Too Obscene
The Daily Caller reports: A Nevada school board temporarily cut off a mother from speaking as she read an assignment reportedly given to her 15-year-old daughter, according to video footage of a school board meeting.
One mother alleged that a teacher at Clark County School District — the nation’s fifth-largest public school district — forced her 15-year-old daughter to memorize and recite “pornographic material.” When the mother began reading the alleged assignment, the school board temporarily cut the mother’s microphone over obscene language.
“This will be horrifying for me to read to you, but that will give you perspective on how she must have felt when her teacher required her to memorize this and to act it out in front of her entire class,” the mother said.
The assignment allegedly read, “I don’t love you. It’s not you, it’s just, I don’t like your d**k. Or any d**k in that case. I cheated Joe.” The mother was immediately cut off after she read the assignment.
A Board of Education member told the mother that they cut her off for the use of profanity.
MY TAKE: The assignment was perfectly fine for kids, but it’s too vulgar to be read aloud at a school board meeting? Seriously?
