DML Morning Briefing Wed. Apr 6

Dems go after two Trump aides, State makes abortion illegal, Church fasts from ‘whiteness,’ and more….

By  Team DML

Today is April 6 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.

1 – House to vote on contempt for Scavino, Navarro in 1/6 probe
The Associated Press reports: The House will vote Wednesday on whether to hold former Trump advisers Peter Navarro and Dan Scavino in contempt of Congress after their monthslong refusal to comply with subpoenas from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

If approved as expected, the criminal referrals will be sent to the Justice Department, which would decide whether to prosecute.

Navarro, 72, a former White House trade adviser, was subpoenaed in early February over his promotion of false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election that the committee believes contributed to the attack.

Scavino, a communications aide, was with Trump the day of the attack on the Capitol and may have “materials relevant to his videotaping and tweeting” messages that day, the committee said.

Navarro cited executive privilege when declining to testify, saying the committee “should negotiate this matter with President Trump.” He added, “If he waived the privilege, I will be happy to comply.”

But the Biden administration has already waived executive privilege for Navarro, Scavino and former national security adviser Michael Flynn, saying it was not justified or in the national interest for them to withhold their testimony.

DML: This is a total outrage! And they’re going after Navarro for his “false claims of voter fraud?”  Give me a break!!

2 – Liberals Call For Firing Of Merrick Garland
The Daily Caller reports: Liberals have criticized Attorney General Merrick Garland’s handling of the investigation into the events of Jan. 6, 2021, with some even calling for his replacement.

“So far, Merrick Garland is failing the United States of America,” Democratic Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro said on CNN Sunday, adding that “Trump is a threat to our democracy, and we need to treat him like one” in a tweet Sunday night.

Castro’s comments come after President Joe Biden had reportedly expressed frustration with the pace of the probe and wished Garland would take decisive action, according to a report from The New York Times on Saturday. Members of the House Jan. 6 committee have also complained about the Justice Department’s failure to rapidly seek prosecution over referrals for contempt of Congress after some Trump allies have failed to comply with subpoenas.

DML: But… Democrats wanted Garland soooo bad!  They take down their own.

3 – Man is slashed in the neck with a BOXCUTTER on NYC’s Wall St. subway: Police hunt suspect who fled on foot in latest violent attack
The Daily Mail reports: A man had his neck slashed with a boxcutter on the subway on Tuesday morning in the latest frightening act of violence in New York City.

NYPD officials say the victim, in his forties, was traveling on a northbound 4 train when he and another man got into an argument.

The other man, who is described by police as being in his 30s with ‘dark skin’ and wearing a sweatshirt, pulled out a boxcutter and cut the man’s neck before fleeing at Wall Street subway station.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he is expected to recover.

Police are now searching for the suspect.

DML: And Eric Adams is spending money on billboards trying to get Floridians to move to New York???

4 – Chicago church ‘fasting from whiteness’ during Lent by ditching hymns written by White people
Fox News reports: A church in suburban Chicago has told parishioners it will abstain from performing any music that is associated with White people during the season of Lent.

“In our worship services throughout Lent, we will not be using any music or liturgy written or composed by white people,” the website for the First United Church of Oak Park reads. “Our music will be drawn from the African American spirituals tradition, from South African freedom songs, from Native American traditions, and many, many more.”

The statement continues, “For Lent, it is our prayer that in our spiritual disciplines we may grow as Christians, united in the body of Christ with people of all ages, nations, races, and origins.”

According to a report from Turning Point USA, the church also erected a sign promoting the racially-charged Lenten fast saying that it would be hosting worship services “around the voices of Black people, indigenous people, and people of color.”

The church is also reportedly promoting reflections that it calls “evotionals” which have supported the idea of “fasting from whiteness.”

DML: Unbelievable. Just can’t make this stuff up!  When even the churches are going woke, American is in huge trouble.

5 – Oklahoma state House approves bill to make abortion ILLEGAL – with up to ten years in prison and $100,000 fine for anyone performing the procedure
The Daily Mail reports: The Oklahoma House gave final legislative approval on Tuesday to a bill that would make performing an abortion a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.

With little discussion and no debate, the Republican-controlled House voted 70-14 to send the bill to Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt, who has previously said he’d sign any anti-abortion bill that comes to his desk.

If Stitt signs the legislation and if does not get blocked by courts, the bill would take effect when the state Legislature adjourns in the summer.

The bill, which passed the Senate last year, makes an exception only for an abortion performed to save the life of the mother, said GOP state Rep. Jim Olsen, of Roland, who sponsored the bill. There is no exception for rape or incest victims.

Under the bill, a doctor or person convicted of performing an abortion would face up to 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.

DML: Good for Oklahoma! (As usual, Planned Parenthood is protesting.)
