DML Morning Briefing Tues. Apr 5

NYC mayor laughs at angry parents, attacks Florida with billboards, and more in wild special edition!

By  Team DML

Today is April 5 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has prompted so much backlash this week, we had to do today’s entire morning briefing about him in order to cover it all!  Folks, we couldn’t make this stuff up if we tried! He laughs off angry parents who don’t want their toddlers masked, he spends taxpayer dollars on a mean billboard campaign, and more…. The videos are a must-watch.

1 – Eric Adams laughs off desperate parents as he attends yet another glamorous event and goes back on his word to allow under-fives to take off their masks
The Daily Mail reports: NYC mayor Eric Adams was confronted by parents furious at his decision to extend a mask mandate for under-5s as he hit the town for a Broadway show.

Adams, who has quickly become known for rubbing shoulders with celebrities, was met with angry chants of ‘Unmask our kids!’ as he attended the Paradise Square Broadway Musical at Ethel Barrymore Theater Sunday night.

A handful of women held up signs as Adams entered the building wearing a gray KN95 mask. The latest twist in New York City’s masking saga for under-5’s began Friday, when Adams said he was delaying plans to lift the rule from April 4.

Watch below – Adams laughs off a crowd of angry parents by saying, “Welcome to politics.”

A state judge struck down the indefinite mask rule for under5-s the same day. That lawmaker called it ‘arbitrary, capricious, and unreasonable’ and therefore ‘void and unenforceable.’ But Adams successfully requested a stay to pursue an appeal just hours later.

He has angered parents with a whirl of social events, including a party with Cara Delevingne at the new One Vanderbilt skyscraper last week, as well as a trip to see Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick appear in Broadway play Plaza Suite.

Adams also attended the white tie Gridiron Dinner on Saturday in Washington D.C. with a long list of politicians and journalists.

‘Unmask our babies!’ they yelled, as the 61-year-old entered the Barrymore Theater for a performance of Paradise Square.

Adans was seen maskless at a party:

DML: Masking toddlers is child abuse, and these parents know it!

2 – Angry mom crashes Mayor Adams’ event, demands end to toddler mask mandate
The New York Post reports: A furious Big Apple mom crashed a City Hall press conference Monday to accuse Mayor Eric Adams of reneging on his promise to rescind the toddler mask mandate, saying he “pulled the rug out from under” parents.

“Three weeks ago, you told parents to trust you that you would unmask our toddlers,” Daniela Jampel told Adams during an unrelated press conference on LGBTQ issues. “You stood right here, and you said that the masks would come off April 4. That has not happened.

“Not only did you renege on your promise, you had your lawyers race to court on Friday night arguing that there would be irreparable harm if children under 5 are allowed to take off their masks today along with their older siblings in school,” the mom said.

“So my questions are, what is the irreparable harm to children aged 2 to 4 take off their masks, just as they do in Long Island, just as they do in Westchester? When will you and will you unmask our toddlers?”

DML: And now…. here’s what happened to her… see below:

3 – UPDATE: Angry mom who confronted Adams on toddler mask mandate FIRED from city job
The New York Post reports: The Big Apple mom who crashed Mayor Eric Adams’ press conference Monday to blast him over his tot mask mandate was fired shortly afterward from her job at the city Law Department, The Post has learned.

Daniela Jampel, who served as an assistant corporation counsel, learned she was canned less than an hour after she confronted a caught-off-guard and apparently annoyed Adams over when he would “unmask our toddlers.”

Jampel had publicly challenged the mayor at an unrelated event on LGBTQ issues — as Adams stood in front of a podium banner that read, “Come to the city where you can say whatever you want.’’

Sources close to the matter said Jampel – a leading local critic of the toddler mask mandate and pandemic school closures – was informed by e-mail shortly after the presser that she was fired. The Law Department’s spokesman confirmed to The Post that Jampel was terminated Monday, although the rep said the decision to fire her was made “prior to today.”

Jampel has been calling out the mayor on Twitter:

One parent commented on Jampel’s Twitter page with this chilling message: “It doesn’t matter anymore. It’s already too late. Even if they lifted the mask mandate, which they won’t, the kids still won’t take off their masks. They never have not worn a mask in school to memory. My daughter who can take off her mask in 2nd grade won’t because she’s scared.”

DML: I’ve never felt so glad I moved to Florida!

4 – Mayor Eric Adams Launches Billboard Attack (with NY taxpayer dollars) Against Florida Over Parental Rights Bill, Begs Floridians to Move to New York
The Daily Caller reports: Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams launched an ad campaign against Florida on Monday, urging residents of the sunshine state to move to New York City over Florida’s new parental rights bill.

“We have a message for Florida’s LGBTQ+ community: come to a city where you can be you. Join us now at City Hall,” Adams said on Twitter. The New York City mayor gave a briefing joined by several individuals, some of who were donning rainbow flag masks.

“This is the city of Stonewall,” Adams said. “This is the city where we are proud to talk about how you can live in a comfortable setting and not be harassed, not be abused – not only as adults but also as young people.”

“Your voice is respected here in the city,” Adams said. “This political showmanship of attempting to demonize a particular group or community is unacceptable. We are going to loudly show our support and say to those living in Florida, ‘hey, we want you here in New York! We want you right here in New York City!’”

The billboard campaign,, which has placed billboards in five Florida areas, Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach, will run through May 29.

Adams said the billboard campaign is expected to get about 5 million impressions in the Florida markets, and will promote “diversity and acceptance.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ spokesperson, Christina Pushaw responded, “DOZENS of people in Florida, of all orientations, oppose parental rights in education and support K-3 gender theory instruction. Do the humanitarian thing, Mayor Adams! Pay for their flights and moving trucks to NYC!”

DML: He’s spending the New Yorkers’ taxpayer money on mean billboards in Florida? Just can’t make this stuff up!!

5 – Adams demands ‘discipline of message’ to combat ‘gotcha’ press corps, leaked audio reveals
Politico reports: Every single communication from a city agency, down to notices about cherry blossoms in bloom, must be approved by City Hall, Mayor Eric Adams has instructed administration staff — warning that anyone violating his “discipline of message” would be fired, according to the audio of a Zoom call obtained by POLITICO.

The reason for the new policy that some described as heavy-handed is to counter a “gotcha” press corps the mayor has already sparred with since taking office.

“The first few months we’ve noticed that press advisories have gone out or press releases have gone out and number one, we knew nothing about it or it was something that we were still contemplating here — and that’s just not how I operate,” Adams said during a Zoom call Thursday with about 50 officials from city agencies.

“I’m a big believer in discipline, discipline of message and discipline of action. I do not accept people sabotaging this administration … If I ever find out that happens, someone intentionally does something that is inappropriate, you will not work for me as the mayor.”

It’s unclear what wayward messaging the mayor was referring to, but several high-ranking officials have recently made statements contrary to his positions.
