DML Morning Briefing June 15

By  Dennis Michael Lynch

Today is June 15. Below are some of the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room.

1.Election 2022 Takeaways: Big Trump win, Nev. Senate race set
WASHINGTON(AP) Donald Trump notched a significant victory in South Carolina, where his preferred candidate easily ousted five-term Rep. Tom Rice, the first Republican to be booted from office after voting to impeach the former president last year. But another high-profile GOP target of Trump in the state, Rep. Nancy Mace, managed to hold back a challenger.

Meanwhile, in Nevada on Tuesday, Trump’s pick, Adam Laxalt, won his U.S. Senate primary, defeating a populist candidate who is arguably more representative of the Trump base.

DML: Make America Great Again remains a powerful message.  The Republican voters are looking for a huge win to stop the bleeding caused by Biden’s presidency and his lame party of liberals, and so the Democrats are going to feel it hard come November.

2. Republican Mayra Flores flips Texas House district red in special election
Fox News – Republican Mayra Flores is projected to win a special election in Texas’ 34th Congressional District, flipping a House seat after Rep. Filemon Vela, who held the seat for nearly 10 years, resigned in March and vacated the seat.

Flores, who had 51% of the vote to Democratic candidate Dan Sanchez’ 43% when The Associated Press called the race, will become the first Mexican-born congresswoman to serve in the House. Her family moved to the United States when she was 6 years old.

DML: Her parents brought her here when she was 6?  That sounds like they came here illegally.  If so, they need to be deported.  Wonder if she’s another pro-amnesty RINO.

3.Elon Musk votes for Republican in Texas special election, suggests he likes DeSantis for president
Fox Business – Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he voted Republican for the first time ever – casting a ballot for Mayra Flores who claimed victory in the special election for Texas’ 34th Congressional District, flipping the House seat red.

Musk also predicted a massive red wave is coming in 2022 and suggested he is leaning toward voting for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for president, should he decide to run in 2024.

DML: This is the first time Elon has voted red.  As for his support of DeSantis, smart people think alike. I will speak about this today on my LIVE VIDEO from my boat.  That’s right, the DML BOAT VIRTUAL TOUR begins today.  To learn more about how you can watch each day, click here.

4.Louisiana mother, 32, is ordered to pay child support to man who RAPED her when she was 16
A Louisiana mother who was raped at 16 by a 30-year-old-man has been ordered to give up custody of their daughter – and pay him child support.

In 2005, Crysta Abelseth’s accepted a ride home from John Barnes, now 46, when her friend decided to leave dinner early, Hammond local news station WBRZ’s investigative team first reported. ‘Instead of bringing me home, he brought me to his house. Once inside, he raped me on his couch,’ Abelseth, 32, told the outlet.

Overcome by trauma and unsure of what to do, Abelseth let friends and relatives  believe that the pregnancy – a byproduct of the rape – was instead the result of a relationship she had at the time.  Abelseth welcomed a baby girl and moved on with her life – until her alleged abuser found out about their then-five-year-old daughter in 2010.

Barnes, the owner of a digital branding site, then began a legal battle against Abelseth to obtain custody rights. But despite filing a sexual assault report against Barnes in 2015 and fiercely fighting to have her child in her care, Abelseth’s custody rights over the 16-year-old were revoked last month over an allegation by Barnes that she bought a cellphone for their daughter, WBRZ reported.

The ruling by Judge Jeffrey Cashe also forced Abelseth to pay child support to her alleged rapist, in what her advocates have branded an outrageous miscarriage of justice.

Barnes, whose company’s client list includes law enforcement agencies, has not yet been charged with any crimes in relation to the allegations filed by Abelseth seven years ago.

DML: Seems terribly strange.

5.Investors brace for a big Fed rate hike

CNBC – The rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee will conclude its two-day meeting on Wednesday. The market is betting on a more than 95% chance of a 75-basis-point rate hike, the biggest increase since 1994, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch tool. (1 basis point equals 0.01%)

The shift to price in a larger-than-usual rate hike came after headlines that Fed officials were contemplating such a move following a surprisingly hot inflation reading as well as worsening economic outlook.

DML: It will be 75-basis-points, no doubt.  Biden needs the inflation to stop in time for November, but it will be too little too late, not to mention it will all backfire when unemployment skyrockets.  The guy killed the greatest economy of our generation.
