DML Morning Briefing July 9

By  Dennis Michael Lynch

Today is July 9. Below are some of the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room.

1.Sri Lanka: Protesters Enter President’s House
NY Times – The demonstrators are demanding the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, whom they accuse of running the island nation’s economy into the ground through corruption and mismanagement.

Protesters in Sri Lanka entered the president’s residence and his office on Saturday, as thousands descended on the capital, Colombo, to register their growing fury over his government’s inability to address a crippling economic crisis.

The protesters are demanding the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, whose family has dominated politics in Sri Lanka for much of the past two decades, accusing him of running the island nation’s economy into the ground through corruption and mismanagement.

Sri Lanka has run out of foreign-exchange reserves for imports of essential items like fuel and medicine, and the United Nations has warned that more than a quarter of Sri Lanka’s 21 million people are at risk of food shortages.

DML: The whereabouts of the president is unclear according to the Times. But when they find him, things are likely to get ugly.

2.Police arrest two people for lighting man on fire
Fox News – A man and woman have been arrested in California after another man was allegedly lit on fire, according to police.

Patricia Castillo, 48, and Leonard Hawkins, 43, are facing charges of attempted murder, arson and conspiracy, the Sanger Police Department wrote on Facebook.

Police responded to an incident regarding an injured person at about 9:15 p.m. PT on Thursday at a park in Sanger, California in Fresno County. Officers spoke to a man who had suffered severe burns when they arrived at the scene. The man said a woman had lit him on fire.

Investigators used video surveillance and witness testimony to identify Castillo and Hawkins.

According to police, Castillo had approached the man and threw a cup of liquid on him. The two then appeared to argue before Castillo sparks a lighter and lights the man on fire.

DML: She looks like a real winner, no? People in California are deranged.

3.Furious mom slams American Airlines for LOSING her daughter
DailyMail – A Georgia mom has slammed American Airlines for losing her 12-year-old daughter when she flew alone from Tennessee to Miami.

Monica Gilliam, 39, a photography professor, blasted the airline after Kimber was not escorted off the plane and disappeared.

The youngster had been flying solo from Chattanooga to Miami last week to see her father for a three-week trip. Her mother had forked out an extra $150 for her to be chaperoned through both airports and wear a badge information cabin crew she was not with an adult. But when she got off the aircraft they simply smiled and waved at her and let her wander around the airport before finally being found by her dad.

It came amid general chaos at airports across the US, with hundreds of flights canceled and thousands delayed over the July 4 holiday.

DML: Amazing. When the airlines want to place masks on two-year-olds, they are right on top of it. But when it comes to truly keeping a kid safe they drop the ball. American Airlines sucks, they are another woke company focused on all the wrong things.

4.Analysis: Twitter has legal edge in deal dispute with Musk
Reuters – Twitter Inc has a strong legal case against Elon Musk walking away from his $44 billion deal to acquire the U.S. social media company but could opt for a renegotiation or settlement instead of a long court fight, according to legal experts.

Delaware courts, where the dispute between the two sides is set to be litigated, have set a high bar for acquirers being allowed to abandon their deals. But target companies often choose the certainty of a renegotiated deal at a lower price or financial compensation rather than a messy court battle that can last for many months, three corporate law professors interviewed by Reuters said.

Musk’s main claim against Twitter is that the San Francisco-based company breached their deal because it will not share with him enough information to back up its claim that spam or fake accounts constitute less than 5% of its active users. Twitter has stood by this estimate but also said it’s possible the number of these accounts is higher.

DML: Twitter sucks. They lie. They censor.  Example.  Last night I included @Twitter on a tweet about this very subject.  I don’t do a lot with Twitter, but when I did I would have thousands of likes and retweets.  Now they censor me.  Look at the tweet below, it should have thousands of likes and retweets considering I have near 40,000 followers.  As of writing this post here, which is 12 hours after I posted my tweet, I have 4 LIKES.  Clearly, I am censored.

5.NYC Pushes Indoor Mask Advisory for All as ‘Worst’ Omicron Strain Fuels 6th Wave
News4 NY – All five boroughs of New York City are back in the CDC’s high-risk category for COVID community spread as of the agency’s Friday update, a reflection of the increasingly infectious national climate as the “worst version” of omicron yet holds its dominance.

Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island had all been in the CDC high-risk category for the latter half of May and transitioned to medium risk through June as viral rates and hospital admissions associated with that wave ebbed. The relief was short-lived, though, with all five boroughs now in a heightened state of risk.

That means face masks are recommended for everyone indoors and in public settings, regardless of vaccination status — again. It comes as some neighborhoods in Manhattan and Queens are seeing 25% positivity rates (again). City health officials renewed their indoor mask advisory on Friday in light of the updated COVID data.

DML: I told you this would happen, it’s getting close to election time.  Start in NY, carry through to California, get the COVID spreading everywhere in between.  But instead of telling you to boost the immune system, they want you to wear a mask which hurts the immune system according to some doctors.
