DML Morning Briefing Fri Apr 1

Judge deals blow to Dems in NY, Jobs report, A ‘guest’ at the White House, Disney hypocrisy, and more…

By  Team DML

Today is April 1 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.

1 – Court tosses New York congressional map in major victory for Republicans
The Washington Examiner reports: A New York judge threw out all three of the state Democrats’ redistricting maps Thursday, giving Republicans an interim victory as Democrats prepare to challenge the decision.

The three maps, which would have likely secured at least 20 of the 26 congressional districts New York will have following the 2020 census, were illegally gerrymandered to benefit Democrats, the Steuben County judge found Thursday, ordering officials back to the drawing board as Democrats work to mount a legal challenge.
“What is clear from the testimony of virtually every expert is that at least in the congressional redistricting maps the drawers packed Republicans into four districts thus cracking the Republican voters in neighboring districts and virtually guaranteeing Democrats winning 22 seats,” acting Chief Justice Patrick McAllister wrote in the ruling.

The maps were voided “ab initio” for “for failure to follow the constitutional process of having bipartisan maps presented by the IRC,” the judge found. The New York State Independent Redistricting Commission had run into a deadlock earlier in the year, creating an opening for the Democratic-controlled Legislature to generate the new maps.

DML: It sounds good at first read, but Dems are going to fight it.

2 – Jobs report for March falls short of expectations
CNBC reports: Amid soaring inflation and worries about a looming recession, the U.S. economy added slightly fewer jobs than expected in March as the labor market grew increasingly tighter.

Nonfarm payrolls expanded by 431,000 for the month, while the unemployment rate was 3.6%, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for 490,000 on payrolls and 3.7% for the jobless level.

An alternative measure of unemployment, which includes discouraged workers and those holding part-time jobs for economic reasons fell to a seasonally adjusted 6.9%, down 0.3 percentage points from the previous month.

Average hourly earnings, a closely watched inflation metric, increased 0.4% on the month, in line with expectations. On a 12-month basis, pay increased nearly 5.6%, just above the estimate.

WATCH: Maria pointed out that a big portion of the jobs created in March were actually just low-paying jobs.

DML: We need a real business leader back in charge! Biden has destroyed the economy so bad, inflation is rising faster than jobs. April 1 used to be fun. You could say something so outrageous and unbelievable like “gas is $7/gallon today” and then punctuate it with the joke, “April Fools Day.” But in these times, under this woke administration and the corrupt media that supports it, there is no joke. The outrageous and unbelievable is actually fact. You can’t make this stuff up, there is no “ha ha”. it’s all really happening.

3 – GOP reps demand White House docs concerning Hunter Biden’s foreign dealings
The NY Post reports: Republican members of a House panel sent letters on Thursday to the White House and the National Archives demanding records of any communication between Hunter Biden and the White House during the two terms of the Obama administration, when his father was vice president.

“Hunter Biden’s connections throughout the Russian sphere of influence have now become especially relevant in the fast-moving and developing Russian war in Ukraine,” the Republicans on the House Oversight Committee write in the letters, which were obtained by The Post.

“If the Russian government is attempting to influence American policy in Ukraine by exploiting Hunter Biden’s connection with his father — the President of the United States — the American people deserve to know it,” the letters said.

The Republicans expressed concern over whether Hunter Biden continues to profit now off being the president’s son and whether enemies of the US may be attempting to exploit him because of his foreign business relationships in Ukraine and Russia.

Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), the ranking Republican on the committee, and the other 13 Republicans who signed the letters — including Reps. Andy Biggs of Arizona and Pete Sessions of Texas — point out that when the Russian government on March 15 slapped a series of sanctions on the president, Hillary Clinton and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, they also included Hunter Biden in the penalties.

DML: Republicans need to stay on this like a dog on a bone.

4 – White House Deploys Transgender ‘Jeopardy!’ Champion Amy Schneider to Condemn ‘Scary’ Parental Rights in Education Laws
Breitbart reports: The White House on Thursday welcomed transgender Jeopardy! champion Amy Schneider to the briefing room as part of their recognition of Transgender Day of Visibility.

Amy Schneider stepped up to the briefing room podium after visiting the White House with Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

Schneider did not meet with President Joe Biden, the White House confirmed.

Schneider, a man who is living as a woman, took the crown for the highest earning female Jeopardy! contestant in December before losing his 40-game streak in January 2022.

Standing in the briefing room, Schneider specifically condemned recent legislation passed in Republican state legislatures to protect female sports in schools and prevent teachers from pushing transgender agenda in the classroom.

DML: Unfortunately, this is not an April Fool’s joke either – this actually happened!  Pease share your thoughts in the comments section below.

5 – Disney expanding operations to 10 anti-gay countries, regions as they go ‘woke’ in the US
Fox Business reports: The Walt Disney Company is expanding its media empire into at least ten anti-gay countries and regions as the company takes a left-wing stance in the U.S. that includes denouncing Florida’s parental rights bill.

The entertainment and media titan announced on Tuesday that Disney+, the company’s subscription-based streaming service, would make its way into 42 new areas in Europe, Asia and West Africa starting in May with a rollout of launches going through mid-June.

However, nearly a dozen of the announced places where the streaming service will enter have strict anti-gay laws.

As part of its expansion, Disney+ will make its way into Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Yemen – all of which outlaw homosexuality. In many of those places, same-sex activity is punishable through lengthy imprisonments, hard labor and fines.

In others, like Saudi Arabia, where there is no criminal code, homosexuals and transgender individuals face an array of punishments, ranging from fines to chemical castrations to death. In Yemen, homosexuality is also punishable by death.

DML: Oh, the hypocrisy! Just can’t make this stuff up!
