DML Morning Briefing Fri. Nov. 6: Biden takes the lead in two states.
By Team DML
Today is November 6 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch.
1 – Biden takes lead in Georgia, Pennsylvania
Democratic nominee Joe Biden has taken a lead in the vote count in Georgia and JUST TOOK THE LEAD IN PENNSYLVANIA, inching him closer to a win in the tight race for the White House.
In Georgia, Biden took the lead at about 4:30 a.m. Friday morning, which currently stands at 1,096 votes.
Biden’s lead initially came after Clayton County in the Atlanta suburbs reported a bucket of ballots. Biden had been winning a huge proportion of the votes in that area. Other Atlanta suburbs are still reporting some votes.
In Pennsylvania Friday morning, it was announced that Biden now holds a 5,594 vote lead over Trump. Biden is winning the mail-in votes by a healthy margin, and more are still expected to be counted — many of them from the heavily Democratic city of Philadelphia and its suburbs.
Georgia reportedly still has about 9,000 military ballots to count.
DML: Trump must fight this!
2 – Fight for Senate majority boils down to Georgia
Control of the Senate is boiling down to Georgia, likely dragging the fight for the majority out until early January.
Democrats are pinning their hopes on being able to force a 50-50 Senate on a narrow, uphill path that requires them to win both seats in the typically red state. If Democratic nominee Joe Biden wins the White House, a 50-50 margin would hand them the majority because Vice President Kamala Harris could break a tie.
Democrats know they will have a chance to win one race in a runoff on Jan. 5, when GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler will face Democratic nominee Raphael Warnock.
Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) on Thursday also fell below 50 percent of the vote in his contest against Democrat Jon Ossoff, the amount needed to win outright under Georgia’s election law. Officials on both sides expect a second run-off election for that seat that will keep Democrats’ Senate dreams alive.
DML: Dems are salivating.
3 – Arizona voters approve ballot measure to raise taxes on high-income households
Voters in Arizona are projected to have approved a ballot measure to raise state income taxes on high-income individuals. The Associated Press projected the approval of the measure, Proposition 208, Thursday evening.
The measure imposes a 3.5 percent surtax on income above $250,000 for single filers and $500,000 for married couples. That would effectively lead to a top state income tax rate of 8 percent, up from the current rate of 4.5 percent.
The measure was supported by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), along with a number of Democrat politicians in the state and labor unions. Arizona’s Republican Governor Doug Ducey and business groups opposed it.
DML: Watch for an exodus from Arizona!
4 – ‘The View’ host blasts ‘un-American’ Trump voters who backed ‘racist,’ ‘homophobic’ candidate
ABC News’ “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin feels that over 68 million Americans who voted for President Trump are “selfish” because they voted for someone who she says is racist, misogynistic and homophobic.
As of Thursday afternoon, the 2020 presidential election remains too close to call and Hostin is surprised the race is so tight considering the “botched job” that Trump did during his first term.
“For the past four years, this president has shown us that he is a misogynist, that he is homophobic, that he is racist and that he mismanaged a coronavirus pandemic to the tune of 250,000 American deaths,” Hostin said. “Yet 50% of America saw all of that and looked the other way to their brothers and their sisters and said, ‘I’m going to vote for him anyway.’”
She called it “really disheartening” and selfish” to vote for Trump.
DML: This is disgusting!!
5 – ABC, CBS, NBC Cut Away from President Trump’s Live Remarks on Election
The three major news networks — ABC, CBS, and NBC — all cut away from President Donald Trump during a press briefing on Thursday evening in which he was discussing his view of the 2020 election results, including the presidential race.
Trump said: “If you count the legal votes, I easily win. If you count the illegal votes, they can try to steal the election from us.” The Biden campaign likewise claimed Wednesday that it “won,” though Joe Biden himself has put that in future tense.
The president detailed Republican successes in the election — and irregularities in the vote count in several places.
DML: Well, there’s liberal media for you.
