Today is March 15 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion. 1 – Pelosi Defends Decision To Contest Certified Election Results In Iowa House Seat
Daily Caller reports: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday defended the decision to allow the U.S. House to intervene in an Iowa election that had already been certified by the state.

(Republican Rep. Marianette Miller-Meeks won the seat by six votes. Democrat Rita Hart claims there are 22 discarded ballots that were not counted that would hand her the victory, and instead of pursuing legal options in Iowa, she appealed directly to Pelosi.)

“There was a razor close election,” Stephanopoulos began. “The votes were counted, recounted, certified by the state, but there’s a process that could lead to unseating the congresswoman, and Republicans are accusing you of hypocrisy. Why investigate an election that was certified by the state?”

“Well, it was six votes. It was six votes and our candidate Rita Hart, the Democratic candidate, asked for this process to begin,” Pelosi replied, arguing that the House had the authority to intervene in such cases and could potentially move to unseat Republican Iowa Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

DML: So now it’s ok to overturn an election?

2 – Migrants stuck at Mexico border thought they’d get easier entry: ‘Biden promised us!’
Fox News reports: Mexico continues to struggle with the sharply rising number of migrants turned away at the U.S. southern border, with many claiming they were “promised” by President Biden that they could enter the country.

The increased focus on the border situation has brought journalists to Texas, where the problem is most severe: Migrant camps litter the border, with camps of dozens or hundreds of people who are either waiting to enter the U.S. or were just turned back.

New York Times reporters witnessed a number of incidents where migrants were turned away from the border. Most were in tears, with some saying, “Biden promised us!” as they returned to Mexico.

“Biden promised us that everything was going to change,” Gladys Oneida Pérez Cruz, a woman traveling with her son, told the Times. “He hasn’t done it yet, but he is going to be a good president for migrants.”  Cruz paid $9,000 to a coyote for her trip.

Another migrant, Jettner, believed that his life would “change 180 degrees” because he was about to walk across the border, but he was also immediately turned around.

According to BuzzFeed, unaccompanied illegal alien minors are complaining they’re being held in an overcrowded facility without showers. Attorneys who visited a Border Patrol tent facility in Texas for unaccompanied immigrant minors who recently crossed the border said some of the children were held for as many as eight days in crowded areas without showers or the ability to call their families. As of this weekend, there were 4,200 unaccompanied immigrant children in Border Patrol custody, up from 3,700 on Thursday.

Pelosi blames it all on former President Donald Trump:

DML: Biden INVITED them here!

3 – LA County judge authorizes cutting off restaurant’s electricity for trying to survive pandemic
Fox News reports: Los Angeles restaurants have been given the green light to resume indoor dining Monday. But one restaurant has been given a notice that its power would be shut off. Why? Because the owner kept the lights on during the pandemic to survive.

A Los Angeles County judge on Friday authorized the City of Burbank to cut off electricity to a restaurant that has stayed open in defiance of a court order issued earlier in the week.

The Los Angeles Superior Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against Tin Horn Flats on Monday, March 8, requiring that the restaurant close and not open without a County Health Permit and a City Conditional Use Permit, the City of Burbank said in a statement.

The restaurant remained open, despite the order, and on Friday, and the court authorized the city to cut their electricity after giving a 24-hour notice.

UPDATE: Saturday afternoon, Tinhorn Flats posted a notice on their Facebook page that their electricity has been disconnected. An hour later, they added that their telephone service has been disconnected. They are reportedly now using a generator to keep running.

“We will not comply. We are open. Cash only,” the restaurant announced on social media.

4 – California schools discuss using COVID money for teacher bonuses, encourage trips to Hawaii
Fox News reports: Multiple California school districts have discussed using state and federal COVID relief money to hand out bonuses for teachers and staff, with one district even suggesting the money be used for a trip to Hawaii.

The internal memos have been shared online by “Reopen California Schools,” a Facebook group started early on in the pandemic by Jonathan Zachreson.

Clovis Unified School District, located in Fresno County, reportedly discussed using federal and state relief funds to give employees a “one-time payment to employees … given the extraordinary effort required of every employee over the course of the pandemic.”

DML: Just can’t make this stuff up – unbelievable!

5 – Rachel Maddow Wins Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album
Breitbart reports: MSNBC host Rachel Maddow won a Grammy Award on Sunday evening in the Best Spoken Word Album category for the audiobook recording of her latest book, Blowout: Corrupted Democracy, Rogue State Russia, and the Richest, Most Destructive Industry on Earth.

“Congrats Best Spoken Word Album winner – ‘BLOWOUT: CORRUPTED DEMOCRACY, ROGUE STATE RUSSIA, AND THE RICHEST, MOST DESTRUCTIVE INDUSTRY ON EARTH’ [Rachel Maddow],” tweeted the Grammys Award Twitter account on Sunday.

Maddow’s book focuses on “the greed and incompetence of Big Oil and Gas,” and suggests that “the Russian government hacked the 2016 U.S. election” — a talking point used by Democrats to question the legitimacy of Donald Trump’s election in 2016.
