DML Morning Briefing Wed. Apr. 14: The war on police, race, censorship, and more….
By Team DML
Today is April 14 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.
1 – Minnesota mayor open to disarming police officers, yanks down police flag
While holding a press briefing Tuesday with updates on the shooting death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright, Brooklyn Center, Minnesota mayor Mike Elliott indicated he is open to taking weapons away from police officers.
Wright was killed while resisting arrest during a traffic stop on Sunday. The officer who shot him, identified as Kim Potter, a 26-year veteran of the department, reportedly intended to use her taser on Wright, but grabbed and fired her gun by mistake instead.
Responding to a question during Tuesday’s press briefing, Elliott declared, “I don’t believe that officers need to necessarily have weapons every time they’re making a traffic stop, or engaged in situations that don’t necessarily call for weapons.”
“We know that there are many other jurisdictions, even around the world, where that is not needed,” he added.
Elliott, 36, became the first black mayor for the city of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota in January 2019. He immigrated from Liberia to Minnesota when he was 11 years old.
Elliott also ordered the blue-line police flag to be taken down, which was flying outside the police station. Elliot said he had received “a number of inquiries about the flag. I’ve gotten inquiries from the ACLU of Minnesota, requests to have that flag taken down because they see it and the community sees it as inflammatory.”
The Squad responds:
Jqmaal Bowman praises BLM protests, slams law enforcement, and blasts the new robot police dogs walking around the streets of New York City. He says, “Now, not only do I feel physically occupied in my community by too many police, now ya’ll bringing ROBOT police?”
DML: I’ll be talking about this on my podcast today!
2 – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis slams Google, YouTube censorship policies
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis slammed Google for censorship during a press briefing on Monday, after a video featuring DeSantis and other public health experts was removed for ‘medical misinformation.’
“I think what we’re really witnessing is Orwellian. It’s a big tech, corporate-media collusion and the end result is that the narrative is always right,” the governor said.
“They say it’s misinformation even though Google and YouTube routinely host conspiracy theory videos ranging from the cause of the 9-11 attacks to the role that 5G networks play in causing COVID-19,” DeSantis said. “You can pretty much find any misinformation under the sun on Google-YouTube.”
The roundtable took place on March 18, according to the American Institute for Economic Research, who has provided a full transcript, along with a video from a different platform.
Meanwhile, the advice Fauci gives keeps changing. He recently declared that even if you’re vaccinated, you still shouldn’t be eating and drinking in restaurants or crowded situations where people are not wearing masks.
DML: Enough of this!
3 – Professor says unethical race-based healthcare proposal nothing more than ‘political eugenics’
Fox News reported: Some U.S. physicians appear to be embracing “political eugenics” with calls to normalize preferred health care for Black and Latino patients to allegedly address structural inequities, DePaul University professor Jason Hill told “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Tuesday.
“I think for the first time, we are seeing hospitals that are being used by doctors as indoctrination centers and advancing their own politicized views that are using Critical Race Theory, which is a nefarious and quite racist kind of doctrine,” Hill told host Tucker Carlson.
Hill said doctors have been using hospitals as platforms to advance their political views on reparations and “bring it into play” by providing preferential health care based on the race of the patient.
The effort “is really an inverted racial guilt system in the hospital centers and I think … I would question whether or not they are violating the Hippocratic Oath under which they have sworn and pledged allegiance to build and construct their medical lives under,” Hill said.
In a Boston Review op-ed last month, Drs. Michelle Morse and Bram Wispelwey – both of whom have worked at a teaching hospital for Harvard University – called for “an antiracist approach to medicine.” While they didn’t explicitly call for “discrimination,” they criticized colorblind policies and sought racial preferences in patient admissions.
Together with a coalition of fellow practitioners and hospital leaders, we have developed what we hope will be a replicable pilot program for direct redress of many racial health care inequities—one that takes seriously the limitations of colorblind solutions and empowers institutions in variety of contexts to take decisive action to achieve racial equity.
Building on calls for reparations, we call this a vision for medical restitution. Federally paid reparations—urgent and long overdue—would help to mitigate racial health inequities (including those seen in COVID-19), but they would not, on their own, end institutional and structural racism. We believe we must pursue restitution programs at the institutional level while also advocating for federal reparations.
DML: This is sick!
4 – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Chuck Schumer announce new relief fund available for Covid-19 related funeral costs – up to $9,000.
From a CNN report: To qualify, the death must have occurred in the US or its territories, and funeral expenses must have been incurred after January 20, 2020. The death certificate must indicate that the death was attributed to or likely caused by Covid-19 or coronavirus-like symptoms.
AOC tweeted the following announcement on Monday:
It’s taken a lot of work, but I’m proud to announce that FEMA is launching our funeral assistance program. Starting TODAY people can apply for up to $9k in COVID funeral reimbursements. Universal program.
- Death certificate must list COVID as primary or contributing cause. If COVID wasn’t listed for your loved one (as many were early on), you can have the certificate amended by the hospital
- Documented people can apply for lost loved ones who were undocumented
Update Monday evening: “Just heard from @SenSchumer that over *1 MILLION* calls were made today to our funeral assistance program. FEMA has shored up support for these 1st few days. Thank you ALL for getting the word out & to the community activists that made this happen.”
AOC explained that if someone’s death certificate doesn’t list them as having died of Covid-19, you can just have the death certificate amended, in order to get the benefits for the funeral expenses:
DML: There goes more taxpayer dollars.
5 – Project Veritas strikes again in huge expose on CNN, director brags of ousting Trump
After dropping several bombshell undercover videos on CNN in early December, James O’Keefe, founder of the conservative undercover journalism group Project Veritas, has renewed his big expose on the giant media network, releasing a 9-minute video on Tuesday.
The video O’Keefe released on Tuesday is titled, “PART 1: CNN director ADMITS network engaged in ‘propaganda’ to remove Trump from presidency.”
In a 2-minute teaser clip, CNN Technical Director Charlie Chester claims that “Trump’s hand was shaking,” and admits, “We brought in so many medical people, to all tell a story that like, it was all speculation, that he was like neurologically damaged, that he was losing it, he’s unfit… We were creating a story there that we didn’t know anything about, you know? I think that’s propaganda.”
Chester is also heard bragging, “We got Trump out… if it wasn’t for CNN, I don’t know that Trump would’ve gotten voted out.”
Chester admits, “Our focus was to get Trump out of office. So now our next thing is going to be for climate change awareness.”
