DML Morning Briefing Mon. Mar. 8: Biden attacks elections, Californians fighting back, a flashback on Fauci, and more….
By Team DML
Today is March 8 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.
1 – Joe Biden Blames Capitol ‘Insurrection’ for Executive Order Expanding Federal Registration
Breitbart reports: President Joe Biden Sunday released an executive order to expand the federal government’s role in voter registration, citing the “insurrection” on Capitol Hill as motivation.
“[W]e have seen an unprecedented insurrection in our Capitol and a brutal attack on our democracy on January 6th,” Biden said in a prerecorded video address released on Sunday. “A never before seen effort to ignore, undermine, and undo the will of the people,” Biden commented.
He warned that Republicans were preparing an “all-out assault” on the right to vote across the country, and more than 250 bills focus on securing future elections. Many of the proposed laws include voter ID, the right for electoral observers to be physically present during ballot counting, and requiring a judge to be assigned promptly to election lawsuits.
“It is the responsibility of the Federal Government to expand access to, and education about, voter registration and election information, and to combat misinformation, in order to enable all eligible Americans to participate in our democracy,” the text of Biden’s executive order reads.
DML: Wait a minute… WHO is actually preparing an “all-out assault” on our elections?!!
2 – Leaders of Newsom recall effort say they have enough signatures – protesters hold rally
The Hill reports: Leaders of effort to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said Sunday that they have collected enough signatures to spark a special election this year.
At a press conference, organizers announced that the effort has gathered 1.95 million signatures in support of the recall more than a week ahead of the March 17 deadline. The recall movement leaders said they still plan to try to reach 2 million before that date.
“That is more than enough to be able to have this initiative qualified for a special election later this year to let the people finally decide … what is gonna happen with the fate and the future of California Gov. Gavin Newsom,” Randy Economy, a political adviser working on the effort, said.
A large crowd of protesters gathered outside the California State Capitol on Sunday for a ‘Recall Newsom’ rally, as a petition in the state to recall the Governor nears 2 million signatures.
At least one Trump flag was also seen at the rally, as fed-up Californians call for Newsom’s ouster.
DML: Californians need to get fed-up enough to elect a Republican governor next!
3 – Biden Hires Qatari Agent as Senior Adviser
The Free Beacon reports: President Joe Biden hired a new senior adviser on Friday who formerly lobbied on behalf of Qatar, the oil-rich Arab nation that has close ties to Iran and is a central hub for terrorism financing.
The White House announced on Friday evening that Erin Pelton is set to join the administration as a special assistant to Biden and a senior adviser on domestic policy issues. Pelton, a onetime foreign service officer and flak during the Obama administration, later advocated on behalf of foreign governments, including Qatar, according to public filings with the Department of Justice under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which mandates that Americans who are lobbying for foreign governments disclose their work.
Pelton’s work for Qatar is likely to raise questions about the revolving door between the Biden White House and lobbying firms that represent a host of foreign governments. Pelton is just the latest Biden administration official to have questionable ties to adversarial regimes. Biden’s Asia policy czar, Kurt Campbell, for instance, helped found a group that critics say is “heavily influenced by the CCP.” The administration’s potential pick to lead NASA, former senator Bill Nelson, invested in a Chinese telecom company that is blacklisted by the Pentagon.
Pelton lobbied on behalf of the Qatari embassy in 2018, when she was working for Mercury Public Affairs, a top lobbying shop in Washington, D.C., according to the Justice Department filings.
DML: President Magoo should try hiring people who lobby on behalf of the AMERICAN PEOPLE!!
4 – Joe Manchin threatens to block Biden’s massive $4 TRILLION package tackling climate and infrastructure if Democrats don’t loop Republicans into negotiations
The Daily Mail reports: Joe Manchin, 73, won’t accept a simple majority rule in the Senate, threatening in a Monday clip to block Joe Biden’s next massive legislative overhaul if Democrats don’t allow Republicans a seat at the negotiating table.
The centrist West Virginia Democratic senator told ‘Axios on HBO’ in an interview clip released Monday that he will demand the GOP have a bigger voice on Biden’s climate and infrastructure package – which could reach an outstanding $4 trillion – than they had on COVID stimulus.
‘I’m not going to do it through reconciliation,’ Manchin told Axios’ Mike Allen when speaking of the next bill. ‘I am not going to get on a bill that cuts them out completely before we start.’
‘I would say this to my friends. You’ve got power,’ Manchin said. ‘Don’t abuse it. And that’s exactly what you’ll be doing if you throw the filibuster out.’
DML: Don’t count on this guy to go against the Dems when push comes to shove – he’s still one of them.
5 – FLASHBACK: Here’s what Fauci said about mask-wearing was one year ago
Fox News reports: Critics of Dr. Anthony Fauci took to social media to mark one year since the “60 Minutes” interview in which the country’s top disease expert seemed to downplay the use of masks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has since been a fierce advocate for mask-wearing to prevent the spread of the deadly virus. But former President Trump and his advocates seized on the interview as an example of an early misstep.
Fauci told “60 Minutes” at the time that there was “no reason to be walking around with a mask.”
“When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And, often, there are unintended consequences — people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face,” he said at the time.
DML: Maybe this needs to go viral!
6 – The Jen Psaki parody skits continue
Fox News host Greg Gutfeld has made the parody skits mocking Biden’s White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki as regular part of the weekly Greg Gutfeld Show.
Psaki is played by a regular guest on the show, Kat Timpf.
Here’s the latest – all about hot dogs, and binders:
DML: Which is the bigger circus – the real thing or the parody?
