DML Morning Briefing Thurs Apr. 28

Mayorkas sinks to new low, and so does the economy… plus more!

By  Team DML

Today is April 28 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.

1 – Facing Heat From All Sides, Mayorkas Defends Border Policies
Wall Street Journal reports: Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas defended the administration’s plans to lift Title 42, a controversial pandemic-era border policy, in two congressional hearings Wednesday, as Republicans bashed his handling of the border, going as far as to call for the secretary’s resignation.

Mr. Mayorkas has faced intense, bipartisan criticism in recent days from lawmakers who have said the administration hasn’t provided basic information on how it will manage the expected increase in migrants at the southern border after May 23, when the administration plans to end its use of Title 42.

“We started our planning last September, and we are leading the execution of a whole-of-government strategy…to prepare for and manage the rise in noncitizen encounters,” Mr. Mayorkas said in opening remarks before a House Appropriations subcommittee about the department’s budget.

“A significant increase in migrant encounters will strain our system even further, and we will address this challenge successfully,” he added. “But it will take time.”

“We inherited a broken and dismantled system that is already under strain. It is not built to manage the current levels and types of migratory flows. Only Congress can fix this. Yet we have effectively managed an unprecedented number of noncitizens seeking to enter the United States,” Mayorkas brazenly declared.

DML: I agree with Rep. Jackson – “The only thing Mayorkas has “effectively managed” is ERASING our nation’s sovereignty.” He and Joe Biden CREATED this mess ON PURPOSE.

2 – BREAKING: U.S. economic growth rate unexpectedly declined in the first quarter by 1.4%
CNBC reports: Gross domestic product unexpectedly declined at a 1.4% annualized pace in the first quarter, marking an abrupt reversal for an economy coming off its best performance since 1984, the Commerce Department reported Thursday.

The negative growth rate missed even the subdued Dow Jones estimate of a 1% gain for the quarter.

A plethora of factors conspired to weigh against growth during the first three months of 2022, which fell off a cliff following the 6.9% gain to close out last year.

Rising omicron infections to start the year hampered activity across the board, while inflation surging at a level not seen since the early 1980s and the Russia invasion of Ukraine also contributed to the economic stasis.

Prices increased sharply during the quarter, with the price index for gross domestic purchases surging 7.8% in the three-month period, following a 7% gain in the fourth quarter of 2021.

The decline in growth came due to a deceleration in private inventory investment, which helped propel growth in the back half of 2022. Other restraints came from exports and government spending across state, federal and local governments, as well as rising imports.

DML: How did we ever end up with such incompetent people at the helm of this country?  81 million people really voted for THIS?  No way!

3 – Elizabeth Warren: We Need Big Tech ‘Rules’ to ‘Break’ Elon Musk’s Stranglehold
Breitbart reports: Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter shows America needed “rules of the road for big tech.”

Melber asked, “You have warned about the growing power of big tech. What do you see in Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter?”

Warren said, “I see that we need to make two big changes. The first one is we need a wealth tax in America. Let’s talk about how Elon’s purchase here was subsidized by tens of millions of people who have paid their taxes every year. The second part is we need rules of the road for big tech. But ultimately, what all of this boils down to is power. Who’s going to have the power in our country? Are we going to make these decisions as a democracy, or is this going to be Elon Musk all by himself off in a room, a bazillionaire who just plays by his own set of rules, and that’s really what’s at stake here.”

She added, “We need rules of the road, and look. There are going to be rules. Like I said, the only question is will Elon Musk decide all of the rules by himself in a darkroom, or is it going to be the case that we’re going to decide this as a country? We’re going to make rules in a democracy.”

Warren added, “Rules of the road could help facilitate that kind of competition and frankly, break the stranglehold of someone like Elon Musk coming in and owning the whole thing.”

DML: The stranglehold we need to break is that of these radical progressives that are destroying our country.

4 – Biden sparks fury from parents by telling teachers that kids are ‘yours when they’re in the classroom’ as he takes aim at Republican efforts to stop sexually explicit lessons and books
The Daily Mail reports: President Joe Biden has reignited the fire among already outraged parents after claiming their children don’t belong to them ‘when they’re in the classroom.’

‘They’re all our children,’ he said Wednesday, addressing educators at the 2022 Teacher of the Year ceremony hosted by the White House. ‘They are not somebody’s else children. They’re like yours when they’re in the classroom.’

Biden also took aim at parents and Republican legislators who have spearheaded efforts to ban books and bar sexually explicit or overly politically correct curriculum.

‘Today, there are too many politicians trying to score political points banning books, even math books,’ the president said. ‘Did you ever think when you’d be teaching you’re going to be worried about book burnings and banning books all because it doesn’t fit somebody’s political agenda?’

DML: Unbelievable!  That is EXACTLY why parents are waking up and taking back our schools. Our children belong to PARENTS – not to the school!

5 – 6-year-old boy severely burned after ‘bully’ chucked flaming tennis ball at him
The New York Post reports: A 6-year-old Connecticut boy was severely burned when a young neighbor doused a tennis ball with gasoline before lighting it aflame and tossing it at the child’s face, a report said.

Dominick Krankall was playing in his backyard in Bridgeport on Sunday when he was bullied by an 8-year-old boy who snatched gasoline and a lighter from the shed before coaxing the child to come near him, according to NBC New York.

“As soon as he walked down the stairs, the bully called his name and lured him over around the corner,” the boy’s sister, Kayla Deegan, told the outlet.

“In a matter of seconds he came back around the corner screaming, saying, ‘Mommy, they lit me on fire! They lit me on fire!’”

DML: This infuriates me beyond words.
