Today is July 27. Below are some of the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: The DML Podcast will be released in the evening today, instead of this morning. We will send an alert as soon as it’s posted.

1 – Biden, Xi to hold talks amid new tensions over Taiwan
The Associated Press reports: Presidents Joe Biden and Xi Jinping will speak Thursday, according to a U.S. official, their first conversation in four months coming amid new tension between Washington and Beijing over China’s claims on Taiwan.

The planned talks between the two leaders — the fifth in a series of regular check-ins — have been in the works for weeks. But the possibility of a visit to Taiwan by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the top congressional Democrat and second in line of succession to the presidency, has added fresh strain to the complicated relationship.

Beijing is warning that it will take “forceful measures” should Pelosi visit the self-ruled island of Taiwan that China claims as part of its territory.

Pelosi hasn’t confirmed plans to visit Taiwan, but Biden last week told reporters that U.S. military officials believed it was “not a good idea” for the speaker to visit the island at the moment. Biden’s comments came after the Financial Times reported last week that Pelosi planned to visit Taiwan in August, a trip she had originally planned to make in April but postponed after she tested positive for COVID-19.

“If the U.S. insists on going its own way, China will take forceful measures to resolutely respond and counter it, and we will do what we say,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin.

MY TAKE: Biden meeting with Xi… What could possibly go wrong?   America needs REAL LEADERSHIP.

2 – Biden is considering extending student loan payment freeze for several months and forgiving $10,000 per borrower
The Daily Mail reports: President Biden is considering extending a Covid-19-induced pause on student loan payments yet again and the federal government has in recent weeks told student loan servicers not to contact borrowers about making payments again one month ahead of the moratorium’s deadline.

The president is also still considering forgiving up to $10,000 in student loan debt per borrower.

The current moratorium is expected to end Aug. 31 and Biden could extend it through the end of 2022 or until next summer as the president seeks to appeal to young voters ahead of the midterm elections.

Debt forgiveness may follow the extension, though the president has not reached a final decision, according to Bloomberg. Biden has been under intense pressure from progressives to do forgive as much as $50,000 in student debt and it’s unclear if forgiving $10,000 will soften their cries.

MY TAKE: What about all the people who already paid their own debts – where’s their refund?  This is why socialism doesn’t work!

3 – NYC teen seen punching cop in wild video was sprung without bail in robbery case days earlier
The New York Post reports: The 16-year-old boy who allegedly punched a cop in a Manhattan subway station was free to strike after being sprung without bail in a violent robbery case just a few days earlier.

The boy — who is not being identified because he’s a minor — was freed on his own recognizance following his bust on Wednesday on allegations he and three others jumped a 49-year-old man on a Midtown street, punching the victim and running off with his cellphone.

Prosecutors with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office requested he be released with “intensive community monitoring” at his arraignment, though they could have requested bail on the top robbery charge.

A few days later on Saturday, the boy was arrested for the subway incident, in which he was caught on camera violently attacking a Manhattan cop after allegedly jumping a turnstile at the 125th Street-Lexington Avenue station in East Harlem.

The teen was again released without bail Sunday and the case was transferred to Family Court, where proceedings are hidden from public view. Under the state’s “Raise the Age” law enacted in 2017, the majority of cases involving 16 and 17-year-olds are now diverted directly to Family Court.

MY TAK: Democrat’s soft-on-crime policies are only encouraging MORE crime. ENOUGH of this!

4 – Maryland School District Prohibits Faculty From Disclosing Children’s Use of Pronouns From Parents
The Washington Free Beacon reports: Maryland’s largest school district is prohibiting faculty from disclosing information about children’s chosen gender identity from their parents.

Montgomery County Public Schools has provided guidelines for working with transgender children that say a “student’s transgender status is confidential” and cannot be disclosed with their parent or guardian without their permission.

Public schools across the country this year have implemented policies excluding parents from their children’s education, especially with LGBT policies. In Virginia, Fairfax County Public Schools prohibited teachers from consulting parents when students as young as kindergarten-age switch genders at school in July. Loudoun County Public Schools in the state issued similar guidelines in April. A California mother sued her daughter’s school district in January after two teachers allegedly coerced her child into adopting a transgender identity without informing her.

The guidelines say school principals and staff should “ascertain the level of support the student either receives or anticipates receiving from home,” helping the student create a gender-identity plan “even when the family is nonsupportive.”

Harold Maldonado, the father of a rising fourth grader at MCPS, told the Washington Free Beacon he is “angry” and “disgusted” that Montgomery County is pushing “inappropriate” sex education on students.

MY TAKE: This will stop when parents get fed up enough to take over the school board, or take their kids out of public schools.

5 – Conservatives disgusted after Fauci says his ‘common sense’ advice ‘saved millions’
Fox News reports: Conservative Twitter users reacted in disgust after National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci stated that he only ever gave “common sense” medical advice that saved “millions of lives” during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fauci’s comments came during Tuesday’s episode of CNN’s “New Day,” after host John Berman prompted Fauci with a quote from Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., insisting that if the GOP gains a congressional majority after the midterm elections, “we will subpoena his [Fauci’s] records and he will testify in the Senate under oath.”

Fauci responded, saying, “Well, there’s no reason to do that, but if they want to go ahead. My records are an open book.”

He commented that Republican are accusing him of “bizarre” things. “They are talking about things that are really bizarre, John, like crimes against democracy by shutting down the government,” he claimed.

“All I have ever done – and go back and look at everything I’ve ever done – was to recommend common-sense, good CDC-recommended public health policies that have saved millions of lives,” the doctor declared, before reiterating, “If you want to investigate me for that, go ahead.”

MY TAKE: Fauci doesn’t have an OUNCE of common sense. Investigate him now!
